THE MIAMI SEAPRISON
In Miami Seaquarium there is a Orca by the name of “Lolita”, she is being kept illegally.
After being taken from her pod at age 4, along with four other siblings that died in the process, she has been performing 2-3 times a day since 1970. Orcas in captivity don’t usually live past 30, she is approximately 42. Lolita’s time is running out. In the wild female Orcas, like Lolita, can live into their 80’s.
The water pen that the sea aquarium houses Lolita is to small according to the Animal Welfare Associations. Her tank does not even meet the minimum requirements. Lolita herself is 20 feet long, her tank is only 21 feet deep. It is basically a hotel swimming pool. And for a whale…well, that’s no vacation.
DON’T YOU THINK SHE NEEDS A BREAK?
Doesn’t she deserve a retirement plan like your folks?
She needs a 401K also!
The goal for Lolita is to give her a sea pen in the North West waters of Seattle where she is originally from AND HER FAMILY STILL LIVES. She would not be released into the wild, but taking care of by loyal wild life specialists as she gets acquainted to life back in the sea.
BOYCOTT THE MIAMI SEAQUARIUM AND ALL ANIMAL ENTERTAINMENT THEME PARKS. THEY ARE TORTURE PARKS THAT ONLY CARE ABOUT MAKING MONEY.
“When we return wild animals to nature, we merely return them to what is already theirs, for man cannot give animals freedom, they can only take it away.” Jacques Cousteau
I’m all for freeing the whales, but after so long in captivity, how would she fare out in the ocean? My worry would be that she would not do so well and die young anyway, but that is just a guess, I don’t know much about whales.
Come out first Saturday of the month if you live near by and feel as we do.
I love Lolita the whale. I hope the best for her.
A sea pen means that they’re in their native waters but are enclosed enough that they can’t just wander back out into...
